Agreed Mat,
However I could see AA and Beeston trying to go for a return to baseball to Montreal. How great would it be to a return of the Montreal Royals as the Jays AAA franchise? The kids would be close to home for coaching and internal scouting purposes.
I ton would have to be done to make this happen including a 10,000 - 12,000 seat baseball facility and setting up an ownership team. But Montreal is a good baseball city and would make sense for the Jays in terms of how they want to market this team going forward i.e. Canada's team.

The strength of the Fisher Cats this year is defence in the middle infield. This year the double (and triple) play machine of Hechaverria (SS) and Diaz (2B) will be augmented by Mike Mcdade (1B)... who was named Defence Player of the Year in the Blue Jays Org. Diaz got the award last year. BTW, Diaz spent most of spring training at 2nd in big league camp. He filled in while Hill was on the mend and was one of only 2 position players who made it all the way through spring training as a non-roster invitee. Tolisano will be in left field. He saw duty there in spring training while he was in big league camp.

Entirely agree on the LV bit JayTeam. There are numerous organizations out there who tend to use AA as the last big test for their top prospects, while those who may have more hurdles to cross get a "taste" of AAA. It is very telling that the entire OF from NH in 2010 will now get a chance in AAA, while only Brett Lawrie will get a promotion from AA in the infield.

I really do believe that the Jays want to bring their AAA affiliate closer to home. Where? Who knows. But I do know that they'll jump on the chance to do so when that becomes a possibility. I'd say that anything in the NE of the U.S., in Canada, or around the Great Lakes would be the likeliest destinations once the Jays move their affiliation.

The non-promotions of Farina and especially Stewart are interesting, though not unexpected. In other organizations, a 24 yr old like Stewart repeating AA would be the kiss of death as a prospect. However, it seems the Jays 1) are OK with promoting directly from AA as evidenced by Drabek and Reyes and 2) are not going to send their top pitching prospects to Vegas. As to why they won't use Vegas, I think there are a combination of reasons. Both the altitude and especially the sun baked infield, cause ERA's to soar. This can sap confidence in young pitchers, cause development of bad habits such as nibbling rather than challenging hitters and makes evaluation more difficult. It may also be sending a message to the Vegas franchise owners that they won't get our top prospects until the infield issue is resolved, and may cause them to be more aggressive in pursuing a different partner next time, allowing the Jays to find a better AAA home.
