I agree and disagree. Casey Lawrence really intrigues me as well, but he is still young. Age is a factor to some degree yes but 22-23 is still relatively young - some peak later than others. The jays had some great pickups for free agents and seniors. Some were duds, but I was really impressed with Jesse Hernandez and Bryan Longpre. Hernandez had a great year in the prestigous NY Penn league and has some potential, good two seam but is not a hard thrower, mid 80's when I saw him. Longpre I saw once in the GCL and once in Spring Training, both times very impressive with a 90-91 sinkerball topping 93 at times, above avg curveball, and plus changeup. I Asked one of the kids what round he was and couldn't believe he was a senior free agent. Also surprised he didn't make this list! But great job by the Jays scouting department grabbing these three quality arms for cheap!

Lawrence's results intrigue me - his age - not so much. The problem with being older than your peers is that it really makes a difference. A 19 year old performing with the same effectiveness as a 23 year old at the same level is MASSIVELY superior as a prospect. There will be lots of pressure on him to duplicate his results as he climbs the ladder. Personally - I wish him luck but I wouldn't hold my breath.
