Two moves put the jays over the hump. Trading for Alomar & the great pick up of Devon White. Alomar was a sublime player. Twice saw him dive for a hotshot (nobody else touches) up the middle with a man on second & instantly fire to third to get the guys over running the bag. Never saw anybody else do that. If there was a better defensive 2nd baseman, he must of been something, but i'm not sure it was possible to be better. I always thought he was the best player on the field.Definition of clutch. That deserves any recognition which could possibly come his way. All teams should honor they're all timers & Alomar is that.

Since we're dealing with that era, Duane Ward drove me nuts for a few years, but when it clicked for him, I thought he had a couple of years where he pitched as well as anybody could. Don't hear much about him these days, but he was very integral to those teams.

Let's hope Anthopolous can put the Jays back to this level. I gotta admit I like what he's done so far and hope is returning. Then again, even when my brain knows the difference, I hope every spring. Things are looking up.

Legacy is dead on about Dave Stieb.

my legacy- you nailed it. I guess I was being a little too harsh by singling out one word from an entire article.
Great read anyways, much like I've come to except from you guys. Keep up the good work jays journal!

Mat - I think you're right on what you "believe" about Robbie's number being retired. And - he certainly deserves it! What niggles me about it is Dave Steib - me being an oldie - it just doesn't seem fair to not have Dave's number retired - had he been in his prime during the Jay's Glory Years - I'm pretty sure he'd be in the Hall too - he really was wonderful to watch - and hey - eventually - he was perfect. Did i mention a guy named Delgado and then there was that Fernandez guy - he had some glove - and a tiny bit of bat as well - sigh...

As to Daniel's comment - Mat - if you change one word in the whole article - from "if I do know ONE thing..." to "if I do BELIEVE one thing..." then I'm pretty sure we can all stay BFFL.

Great article, Mat!

Im a big fan of the site and i mean no disrespect, but I think this article is a little too much of a stretch. You can claim to "know" that if edwin has his choice he would still be wearing number 12. That is pure speculation and it is a little irresponsible to claim something like that as fact.

I think I read somewhere that Bautista had asked Edwin to change his number from 12 to 10. I can't remember where I read that though :/
