It strikes me as odd how much we argue about rankings when we’ve probably only seen our prospects play a few times (if that) and other teams prospects even less.
As far as Sale and McGuire, KLaw (and I’m guessing our scouting staff as well) have concerns as to whether Sale’s mechanics will work as a starter. If McGuire makes it to the majors as an average #3 or 4 starter, he’ll end up more valuable than Sale if he remains a reliever.
The Syndergaard pick was unprotected, for not signing Paxton in ’09. We had to chose someone who we could definitely sign or lose the pick altogether. Ranaudo was much too risky with that pick.
The Dbacks and Padres 1st rounders didn’t make the top 100, because they weren’t signed. Both should end up with a better prospect (esp the Dbacks) in a much stronger draft, with the chance of them not signing lessened with the potential for hard slotting in the next collective agreement.
Klaw calls Iglesias the best defensive shortstop prospect he’s ever seen. He did rank Hech in his top 100, but called him flashy and noted his throwing motion to first is “south of sidearm” and has a tendency to tail. I’m guessing we saw a bit of why Hech doesn’t get a lot of love in some quarters in our 1st inter-squad game when he made a good play to get to Molina’s grounder but rushed his throw and threw it away. If he had simply planted and thrown as he should have for someone who has no speed, he would have had Molina by plenty.

after reading that top 100 list, I pretty much dismissed it for any sort of relevance. it's easily the most "WTF?" BA list I can recall.

FINALLY!!! someone who agrees that these Jays prospect rankings just don't make much sense!

1) Drabek wins pitcher of the year and somehow becomes less valuable?

2) Trying to find logic from Sox fans regarding Iglesias and Hech's rankings other than having them constantly repeat the "Iglesias is probably the best defensive shortstop in the world" is nearly impossible

3) Arencibia played in the PCL against many of the players mentioned in the top 100 and he won the award for being the best, atleast stats-wise. And don't you think that a young power hitting catcher coming off of an MVP season should be ranked higher than a pitcher just drafted who didn't even get picked in the first round?

4) Anthony Gose was also ranked ahead of d'Arnaud in BA's top 10 prospects but he was also left off of the top 100 list for some reason

5) Brett Lawrie lead AA in quite a few categories at only 20 years old and his ranking drops also?

6)Toronto is ranked as having the 4th best farm system but there are teams ranked below us that have more higher ranked prospects than we do on there. If were the better farm system then wouldn't the prospect rankings show that?

I find the excuse that they weren't pushed back because of their numbers but because of all of the talent in the draft because prior to the draft it was supposed to be one of the weakest in the last decade with there supposedly being "virtually no difference between the 4th and 44th picks" in regard to talent. If it was an outstanding draft class like 2011 is supposed to be then I would find that much easier to believe. I could rant all day about it but to keep it short I think the Blue Jays prospects were WAY underrated

I think you mean "take a peek" at this year's list. Oddly enough the same homonym that gave you issues in a previous article.

To review:

peek: take a look
pique: excite or arouse
