Yeah, I remember JP hiring David Errstein after promising the starting shortstop job to John MacDonald. The best he could do was to leave a message on Johnny Mac's cell phone after the fact. It's a good thing one of them had some class.

If you want a positive example of how this thing works, look at Philly. The Roy Halladay trade would not have taken place had Doc not left around $60 million on the table that he could have gained by going to free agency; and Cliff Lee turned down excellent offers from the Yankees and Rangers to play in Philly as well. This is the team and business model that Pat Gillick built, and it seems that his legacy lives on in Toronto. Although eclipsed by the Interbrew years, Gillick's philosophy of superior scouting, building from the ground up, and fair and honest dealing is something that is surfacing again under the Alex Anthopolous. Given the success of this business model in the past, things are looking pretty good for Toronto.

What a difference between JP and AA - right near the beginning of JP's reign Orlando Hudson said he looked like a "pimp" - to Orlando - this was meant as a compliment (obviously he grew up in a different neighbourhood than JP and me too for that matter) BUT JP didn't have the emotional maturity to have that comment just slide off his back - remember he sent Orlando down for a while - I'm positive AA would have handled that much differently - much more constructively.

It's not going to be as much fun having a GM you like and respect - one of the joys of life is insulting guys in his position. Thank goodness - I've still got the crutch of scotch to fall back on (single malt of course).

Nice read I agree with the sentiments...here's to hoping that Albert is looking for an honest respectful relationship with his new team next season.
