Wow, you might be older than me!! I remember Henley as well, was he the punter too, is't been so long.Seems to me he played 2 ways, DB and receiver, wherever they needed him.
As a pre puberty Argo fan, I remember those great Ticat teams, Bernie Faloney, Ralph Sazio, Angelo Mosca. Always killing my Argos. When Faloney punted the ball back out of the Hamilton end zone to rob the Argos once again of advancing in the playoffs, I wanted to cry.
But I do fondly remember Angelo wiping out Willy Fleming on one hell of a dirty hit, and me cheering. Better Hamilton winning the Cup, than any western team.
Talented as he was, I don't think Fleming was ever the same after that.

Perfectly stated. The tools are there, and if he is healthy, EE will perform and surprise. Lots of upside entering his prime career years.
Again, spot on about Lawrie. Atitude wise, on the field and off, he reminds me of Pete Rose, more than anybody. And that is a great thing. Say what you want about Parley Pete, the guy played ball like a linebacker. He was a huge part of one of the most dominant teams ever.
There have been too many all talent no heart guys that never panned out. Alex Rios? And how is the remote helicopter running these days, Alex?
You get a chance to acquire a player of high talent and run you over mentality, you grab him and run like a thief. Milwaukee is making a run in a powderpuff division, I understand that.
But AA absolutely skewered Melvin on this one.
Lawrie might just be racking up HOF numbers long after Marcum is retired.

Regarding the Super Bowl - I've got to go with the Packers.

But for a convoluted reason... I'm a Tiger Cat's fan and Vince Lombardi - many, many years ago - recommended Garney Henley to the Cats - and - Garney is my favorite Tiger Cat!

So because I believe...

Oskee, wee wee
Oskee Waa waa
Lets Go Ti-Cats
Eat em raw raw...

I'll be cheering for the Packers!

Great comments as always Mylegacy. I particularly agree with you that EE is a better DH than Vladdy would be right now, I'm just saddened to see him in the AL East against the Jays. The Orioles lineup got a whole lot harder to get through with his addition, free swinging or not!

Agree on all TB points, but Maddon may be the wild card there. If he can keep everyone loose and happy, there's no telling what could happen there.

For Young to come to Toronto, it would take an opportunity that AA couldn't pass up. I doubt he'll ever wear a Jays uniform, but it would be nice to see him in one after they drafted him so long ago!

Looking forward to ST as much as anyone could!

Enjoy the Superbowl btw. My obviously not going to be accurate prediction: Steelers 30 - Green Bay 33

You could say the "Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

The Good - No question Chavez WAS a great guy to pick up a half-decade ago. I agree with you that since the Spankies have even considered Chavez then they harbour concerns about Pasada and or ARod - good news for the Jays. As to Garcia and Colon they almost don't warrant a response - so I'll quote my 12 year old niece's catch-all response - "Whatever!"

The Bad - My heart too bleeds for Vlad the Impaler! However, on the Jays he would replace EE - but shouldn't. While EE can play (in a funny sort of way) DH, 3rd and 1st. Vlad can only be wheeled out to the batters box, and using his walker for support - flail away. EE gives us actual back-up we can use. Vlad - is - at this point in his medical history - just a passenger in an ambulance - looking for the nearest hospital. However, I still do - and will forever more - love the big guy!

Do we need two 134 year old left fielders/DH's? I'd rather Darin was the back up outfielder and EE (who can actually play a position we need back up for - 3rd)as DH over the inevitable three ring circus the two "idiots" will have whirling around them all year. AA - is trying to construct an on-going winner - not an on-going animal house fraternity.

On the Rays Hellickson is gonna be a hell of a pitcher - no question. But the loss of Crawford - the Ray's "straw that stilled the drink" will be SORELY missed on a team that couldn't hit that well in 2010. Jennings could be special - but not so much in 2011. Manny and Damon might be good pick-ups for the Rays - maybe even enough to give them another hurrah in 2011 - but they are just not building pieces for the Jays - they have DISTRACTION written all over them. We've got some serious building to do.

The Ugly - Vernon's good buddy Michael Young. The guy is owed WAY more than he is worth at this time in his career and if he ends up slowing down Lawrie - even a bit - that would be a waste. Lawrie has so far not proved he can play any position in the field - and I recognize that rather breathtaking shortcoming. However, I strongly suspect that Lawrie may be - when all the reports on his career are written - one of the best natural hitters to ever put on a Jay's uniform. Think Josh Hamilton only without a drug problem and with a body that doesn't break down every fifth day. I'm almost that high on Lawrie's ability - even if somewhat concerned about his maturity - or lack thereof.

As to AA using Young in some kind of out of the box "who'd a thunk it" manoeuvre - I'm always delighted to watch the Master at his work.

I'm getting very close to donning my umpires garb - walking out from behind home plate - waving my mask and shouting at the top of my lungs to all assembled - "Play Ball!"
