I understand your train of thought on getting a vet on board, but I think it's easy to see why AA didn't go down that road. He wants to see who can offer what, already has Jesse Litsch and Scott Richmond as semi-vets who can fill the role, and he'd rather give the younger guys a chance to earn that spot than to bring in a SP who may be disgruntled mid-season if the Jays are falling out of contention. Add in injury risks to that veteran, and you've got a lot of reasons to consider the younger route a better option.

Oh, and aren't the Yankees the current kingpins of getting veteran pitching? Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia...who's next? Jamie Moyer?

I'd rather have Marc Rzepczynski or Jesse Litsch in the 5th starter role if you ask me!

Thanks Graham! We're very happy with the progress of Jays Journal overall and it seems like most who show up have a lot of positive things to say about it! We're still working on enhancing the site a ton, so let us know if you spot anything that would work well for us.

Out next priority at this point is to improve some of the pages, allow for quicker access to all of our content, finish the top 50 with a surprise ending (not some flimsy rankings - no worries there!) and to cover the most we can about the Jays and MLB in the process.

It's always great to know that our work here is being recognized, no doubt about it! We're hoping to bring along as much high-quality content as we can along with the other great Jays sites out there. From Bluebird Banter to Greg Chisolm, Jays fans really do have some great places to go in order to get up-to-date information on the Jays. Hopefully we'll be able to continue to add to that for a very long time!

Thanks again for the support!

Off-season started pretty slow but it's picked up towards the end and AA has done an excellent job.

I really couldn't view AA unloading Wells contract without eating up at least half the salary... yet he did and got decent pieces back. He added solid bullpen depth signing guys like Dotel, Rauch and Villanueva. Davis isn't exactly a player that will be our future lead-off or CF but he is a solid gap stop who can steal 50 bases. I really liked Marcum-Lawrie swap as well. You get a guy with his talent who could be a 5-tool player (assuming he moves from 2B to 3B/OF)... it's kind of a homerun deal but that's the kind of risk you need to take when you are rebuilding.

One area I may be disappointed in is getting a veteran depth starter. We got bunch of young pitchers in the bigs and upcoming but it wouldn't hurt to have a veteran starer that could eat some innings. It wouldn't hurt to add some depth at the outfield position either, specifically a player that can play CF.

Overall, I am happy with the off-season.

Not to take anything away from the survey, but I think it's safe to say that the majority of jays fans who peruse the blogs are a little more well informed than your typical Jays fan. Just saying I think if you took the average Jays fan, you'd find a lot more people not as pleased with the outcome of the offseason.

It sucks, but it's the truth. Also kudos on being among the best of the Jays blogs.

What I have noticed is that the articles on bluejays.com are frequently drawing 250-500+ comments, something I have not seen since they allowed commenting. I don't believe the stories on Doc's trade last year drew nearly as many. This is the kind of comment volume that the Yankee's website draws. While everyone has their own take on things, the majority buys into the fact that we have to be patient and build it the right way. There just aren't that many calls any more to trade away our talent for a major piece that could help us do a "one and done" shot.
