I'm at a loss as to why the Jays maintained a figure below the $8 million mark. To me, if they offered around $8.5 million, it would be hard for an arbitrator to rule against them. He did break the all time Jays HR record...career year or not. Look around MLB and you'll see that you don't just walk into 54 HRs by mistake. This could get very ugly very fast.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Jays would pay the money Jose's looking for, but as Jared said above, it's an ugly process that doesn't help his chances for a longer contract with the Jays. The Jays could very well be left with nothing more than 2 draft picks after 2011 if he walks away from the club in 2012. If he does lose the arbitration case, that could be close to a certainty unless Alex is able to move him in 2011.

Jason Frasor is going to arbitration for exactly the reasons listed above. I think he wanted 2 years or more, and was fairly comfortable with not pitching for the Jays in 2011. Whether or not he leaves is still unknown, but it sure seems to me that if both sides are willing to go to arbitration over $500,000, the relationship is pretty well over.

It's going to be an interesting arbitration year in Jays land folks! Hang on to your hard hats, because we're going for a ride!
