@FenixL: I completely understand your point, but his season was only awful because of the lofty expectations we all had for him.

@Mylegacy: I'm not entirely sold on the Jays picking up Hill's option years due to the risk involved. Either way, if AA has more trade pieces because Schimpf proves to be MLB ready at some point, it'll just increase the chances of the Jays dealing someone to ensure continued success.

Btw, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hech in 2011, not just in 2012. His defensive ability is MLB ready, he just needs to hit. Now that he's more comfortable in North America and has some time under his belt, I'm fairly certain he'll get his shot at some point. Remember that the Jays, under AA, moved him up to AA despite struggles at HiA and he did better. I think the same will hold true as they move him to The Show. I'll leave the rest of Hech's situation for his Top 50 Jays prospect coverage.

Back to Schimpf, I do believe he will do well because he's relentless in the same way that David Eckstein is. If he needs to do something to get better, he'll do it. And if he presents an MLB team with above average offensive output at 2B, particularly in power numbers, while providing sound D, he'll get a shot in The Show. No questions about it.

I think he'll do it, but he still has to prove himself big time on D, average, and OBP numbers - hence the #33 ranking!

Can't wait to get to the top 30! This year's crop is just outstanding and we're loving every prospect we throw out there. Just to point something out, Schimpf ranked #16 on last year's BA ranking for Jays prospects. I would doubt he'll even make their top 30 this year, that's how much better the Jays system is overall. Great stuff.

I like every little guy with guts - except Pedroia - whom I sincerely wish swings so hard he screws himself into the ground up to his neck. that I would like to see!

As to Smirf as I call him - meh. Clearly not a phenom and with Hill, Lawrie, Escobar and Hechivarria around I see too many quality guys ahead of him for SS and 2nd. I wouldn't be suprised to see Escobar at 2nd with Hech at SS by mid-2012 (or visa versa)- at the latest.

You seem to be really high on him. Im not sold on him, yeah he has a high ceiling but this past season was awful. This is a major season for Schimpf in my mind, he needs to raise his average and his OBP, and cut down on the SO.
