This is an excellent article. Could you extend the thinking a little further? The way I see it, with Joey Votto ensconced at first for Cincinnati, they must be willing at some point to give up Yonder Alonso (there is no DH role available for him!). What is your thinking about him? Similarly, what about the emerging blockage at first for Kansas City - they can't keep all of Hosmer, Butler, Ka'aihue - what would be your preference there? If all of Anderson, Alonso, and HBK were available for a roughly similar price, what would be your ideal scenario? Can all three teams hold out for a punitive price? Would the Red Sox be less willing to give up a potential star to an AL East rival?

I would think that if the Red Sox dealt him elsewhere first in return for a piece they need prior to the trade dealine, AA may very well target him at that time due to all of the reasons Jared lists thoroughly bove.

Until then, it would take the Jays falling well out of the race and dealing an important piece in order for that to happen. Stranger things have happened!

I don't see Lars in our future. He's still a good enough prospect that Boston will no doubt keep him at AAA and then try and use him as a center piece in a trade sometime in the future when Pedroia's head falls off or The Greek God Of Walks finds he can't play 3rd any more.

But who knows - strange things happen in the lands of the Evil Empires.
