Being a Blue Jays fan,it is natural to want to see them win every season. Being a realist, it is natural to expect less than this considering the fact that they play in the toughest division in baseball. AA has to weigh this dichotomy daily as he pursues his baseball duties.

A quick analysis of the Shaun Marcum for Brett Lawrie trade would seem to point to the fact that he is a realist and is going to shape the Jays to contend in 2012 or 2013.

What is frustrating for Jays fans is if management projects the notion that they "intend to compete in 2011" when in fact the plan is really just "wait until 2012" I know you have to sell tickets, etc. but this sets up the Maple Leaf fans state of mind where management promises a playoff bound team and sets up a hostile fan base because of this empty promise.

I am still not 100% convinced that AA is selling plan B, but if we don't see a blockbuster trade for a big bat and a shutdown closer (rather than starter) by December 15th or so, then I think we can assume that AA is crafting a "wait until 2012" strategy.

I don't have a problem with this approach, but I would appreciate some clarity from management if that is what they are selling.

I agree 100% with Matt that the Jays have a wonderful cast of prospects in the minors, many of whom are destined to be stars or solid MLB players for many years to come.

I am prepared to be patient if that is what it takes, but God I would love to see the Jays whip the Yankees and Red Sox in 2011!!
