The mention of career stats were just notable tidbits on areas that would interest the Jays in 2011.

Abandoning career stats, here’s Manny in 2010: .298/.409/.460, 9 HR, 42 RBI, 46 BB in 90 games, and a .431 OBP vs. LHP.

It’s no secret that his bat is for sure not what it was, but his ability to get on base is still there regardless.

I’d definitely take those kind of numbers on the 2011 Jays.

All Manny ever want is to milk the FA cow for one final time in his career, this stop in TO will only be for 1 yr if it happens. As long as he is motivated and healthy he is a dangerous hitter. All ballplayer are selfish, in fact all of us are. I’ve np with Manny being Manny in TO.

He can only help and he is not blocking any prospect in the organization. In fact, if he signs with TO, it would force Lind to learn how to man 1B properly. Could be a good thing too

Another key buying point about Manny: he is a reputed Yankee killer. His numbers at Yankee Stadium are off the charts.

Career records are only so useful – I know of a horse named Hayburner – his record is 32 wins, 6 2nd place finishes and only 4 out of the money. Impressive, eh? However, he now has a broken leg – I strongly suggest you don’t put too much weight on his “career” statistics. As to Manny’s “career” stats – the guy’s bat is way slower than it was. However, on a one year contract – for the right dosh – he might still have enough to be useful. IF – Lind plays first then – it might even be a “good” move given what else is available for DH.

I remember hearing something about that too actually, and upon looking into it I discovered that Manny has 27 HR and 83 RBI in 96 career games in Toronto.

His 83 RBI are the most for him in any stadium in the Majors besides Fenway or Jacobs (Progressive) Field, and his 27 HR are 2nd to only Yankee Stadium (29) outside of Fenway or Jacobs Field.

Not exactly the same stat, but interesting to note.

I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want Manny in Toronto. Especially on a 1 year deal, incentives or not. He’s a terrific hitter.

Also Jared: I’m not sure if this is still the case, but I remember a commenter saying that he has the record for most homeruns at The Rogers Dome by an opposing player (Career) I don’t know how to confirm that, but interesting nonetheless…

Likewise. I forgot to mention how Manny would mesh well with the other Latin Jays players and new coaching assistant Luis Rivera, and would draw even more attention to the Jays in the Dominican Republic.

He would surely bring more fans out to the Dome, and be a thorn in the side of the Yankees and Red Sox 18 times each in 2011.

Count me as one of the supporters of bringing Manny to Toronto as a 2011 DH.
