If Loewen hadn't got fooled on that line drive over his head - I'd have been over the moon excited about his game. He made a fantastic pick on a hard hit bouncing ball to his right that he pick off with a last second stab while running at full speed and bent over! Very impressive. Hitting - he got 3 hits - and they weren't the story - all three were squibs - the hitting story was that he was facing lefties every at bat (I'm pretty sure every at bat - but maybe one was a righty) AND he stood in there tall and strong against some pretty impressive stuff. I was impressed!

You mentioned Farina threw "all strikes" to Harper - I thought he threw all balls to Harper. I remember thinking that Harper has just got himself out chasing stuff that were all balls but all moving all over the place. In fact the walk was because they just stopped swinging at his filthy moving stuff. I'm not sure if he was throwing a hellacious slider or a hellacious curveball - or both. His fastball topped out at 93 - all in all - he looks like a keeper.

McDade looks like he thinks he's quite cool. Blowing bubbles - strutting around. Seems to me like he moved fairly well for a 6' 600 pound go-rella. He did have one ball go under his glove for a single. He's a switch hitter and I'd really like to see him play more. Many power guys show it in batting practice long before they show it in games. We can hope.

Thames started the AFL on fire and then fizzled. Lots of guys are pretty well worn out by the AFL season - lets hope he was one of them. However, he made a spectacular catch on a pop up just behind 3rd that he came in on from his LF spot like a cat with his tail on fire. Another guy I'd really like to see more.

With Farina pitching an inning and Loewen, McDade and Thames in the batting order - it seemed like a Jay's home game. Fun to watch!
