What about promoting from within to begin with? I'm thinking that all 3 NH stars, Trystan Magnuson, Tim Collins, and Daniel Farquhar should be headed to AAA after the allstar game in order to prepare them for the next step. It looks to me like Merkin Valdez isn't doing well in AAA at all (9.35 ERA)and that the same is true for Steven Register (6.12 ERA). Promote 2 of the 3 mentioned above and demote these 2. At least then you're getting 2 arms closer to being usable for the Jays and trying to rebuild 2 arms that have been "lackluster" so far. If Daniel or Trystan (my 2 picks) do well in AAA, then you can consider calling one up in September while the other closes in AAA.

It'll be interesting to see when the Jays decide to do this, but I think it needs to be done in order to prepare for the fact that they may not be able to acquire decent RP help on the market.

Although I think a change is needed with Gregg's WHIP all the way over 1.50 now.

It's so hard to get valuable relievers at a good price via trade. The position is more volatile than any other in the game and so many times it doesn't end pretty (Eric Gagne to the Red Sox comes to mind).
