A.J. Jimenez – Jays Prospect of the Day

Lansing Lugnuts catcher A.J. Jimenez was selected in the 8th round of the 2008 draft by the Jays, is from Puerto Rico, and spent 2009 in Lansing as a 19 year old with ok stats for his age. He will be 20 in May, and just played his first game of 2010 with impressive results:

4 for 5, 3 Doubles, 2 Runs Scored, 2 RBI, and 2 Stolen Bases

What a way to kick off the 2010 season! With so many options in front of him (d’Arnaud, Arencibia, Gomes), with him (Ochinko), and behind him (Perez), Jimenez has his work cut out for him as far as making the Jays as a catcher. Still, if the youngster can pull out a big season the Jays will be glad to have the depth and trade chip should that option be more favorable.
