Adeiny Hechevarria is about to be on his way to Dunedin, according to his agent, to take his physical, the last step to making his signing with the Blue Jays official. I’m really looking forward to seeing where they place him in the minors and whether he is already up to speed and ready to perform as high as AAA. We’ll find out soon enough. Anthopolous stated the following when asked about Adeiny: “We’ve talked about trying to get a shortstop, adding more depth and getting more prospects and so on, and we’re going to continue to be involved on some of those guys and evaluate them.” This bodes well for the Jays who were never very aggressive on the international front under the JP Ricciardi regime.

As new International FAs become available, the Yankees, Angels, A’s, and others who are historically aggressive now have to deal with teams like the Jays and Reds. Good for the new guys. This is an important new avenue for the Jays and Reds, and I for one look forward to the next big international signee who doesn’t go to the Yankees or Red Sox. It’s what’s best for Baseball.
