Mat - I hope you're right.

We've no one in the minors who's near major league ready. It would go a LONG way to making us ready to compete - NO QUESTION!

Interesting take, for what it's worth I really hope your right as well. Off topic, but I hope snider actually makes contact against a righty this spring before Cito makes up his mind that he's headed back to Vegas.

Thanks for the comment Clint, and I certainly don't think it will be easy or cheap. But here's what I do know:

- the Yankees have already made a ton of international investing and have Jesus Montero to deal at some point in return for a SS of the future (my favorite target of theirs is Jiovanni Mier with Houston who could use a replacement at 1B when Berkman leaves). The Yanks have Romine and Gary Sanchez for their Catching future. So that's how I think they'll address the SS hole, but here's the kicker - there are rumours Jeter wants to play another 4 years minium - so what's the rush? If they spend 20-30 million on Adeiny, they have to substantiate it by playing him at some point. What if Jeter wants to stick around? they can't really push him out the door now, can they? that's why I think the Yanks will be outbid, just like they've been outbid for other big names before such as Dice K, Michael Ynoa, and most recently Edward Salcedo. they didn't even look that deeply at Salcedo, which tells me something about their sense of urgency.

The Cubs have 5 SS prospects in their top 10 prospects according to BA and are rarely active in the international FA market. 'Nough said.

Chalk these 2 teams being mentioned as a means to drive up the price. The only reason the Red Sox were not mentioned is because they just picked up Iglesias.

That's why I think the Jays will get him. The only real competition I see comes from the Angels, but I can't see them bidding near 20 million - which is what I expect the Jays ceiling to be. Just my opinion, but I do hope I'm right!

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Jays don't sign Adeiny, the Yanks and Cubs have the most reported interest as the Yanks see him as Jeter's eventual replacement. Can't see the Jays outbidding the Yanks.
